The US has a pithy amount of oil reserves compared to our useage. Even Alaska cannot begin to supply one tenth of what we use if they drilled every wilderness area they wanted to. I just heard the statistics and the best ANWAR could do at full production would be about 2% of our needs. The madness of wanting to drill every place in America is an attitude of complete denial, that it's about time we started getting OFF oil. A responsible president would see this and do something about it NOW instead of waiting 17 years as Bush is proposing. For now we do need oil, but through efficiency, conservation, more and more alternative fuels and a new hydrogen marshall Plan we can quicken the end of our addiction on oil, starting with all Arab oil.
