Well, you know Bush wants to clearcut 11 forests. I was talking to an archeologist buddy earlier tonight and I asked him if clearcutting had anything to do with the excess detritus on the forest floors. And he blamed Smokey Bear's successful campaign to stamp out forest fires, saying that naturally occuring forest fires are a good thing and keep the forests healthy. Actually I have an uncle who's an agronomist who has told me much the same thing.
