The French and the Germans appeasement approach is sort of understandable as they likely fear the large muslim populations in their countries. But the Russians, they have had an ongoing battle with islam for years now got to wonder about them. France has huge oil deals signed with sadam so no big surprise as the french are doing what the french do, Cave and wait for someone to bail them out.
