DETROIT (AP)--Federal authorities removed three passengers from a Northwest Airlines flight from Detroit after it landed at Baltimore-Washington International Airport on Thursday morning because of "suspicious behavior" noticed by the crew, an airline spokeswoman said.
Flight 1134 departed from the airport in Romulus at 6:48 a.m. EST, and the crew noticed the behavior about 30 minutes later, Northwest spokeswoman Mary Beth Schubert said.
"Our crew members identified suspicious behavior on the part of several passengers," she said. "We continued to Baltimore and landed the aircraft."
Schubert declined to elaborate on the nature of the behavior.
The plane landed and was met by federal authorities, who removed several of the 48 passengers before it taxied to the gate, Schubert said.
FBI spokesman Barry Maddox said agents are interviewing the three men and the flight crew.
The remaining passengers were allowed to leave the plane after it taxied to the gate, Schubert said.
A NORAD spokesman in Colorado, Air Force Major Ed Thomas, said two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled as a precaution after the suspicious behavior was reported.
The fighters circled between Washington and Baltimore until the airliner landed safely, he said.
