they're simply letting the situation drift until a nuclear North Korea becomes a fait accompli.

I keep seeing remarks like yours, mainly from the Dems who are looking for a way to stop the Iraq invasion.

What would you have had us do that we have not done? If you don't like the "Axis of evil" remark by Bush, that turned out to be right, fine. But that was done before we had the confrontation with them, and we know that they have been working on obtaining more enriched Uranium since 94, so it made no difference in their actions.

Our best estimate is that they have one or two nukes now, and have had them for several years. Do you want us to start direct negotiations now, with all that is entailed in doing so? And, if so, to what purpose? They have been successfully blackmailing us since 94, and want to up the blackmail. We know they just got 200 million under the table from South Korea.

I see the best way to go as doing precisely what we are doing. Nothing. We can't stop them from making more nukes without starting a Nuclear war with them. They are going under economically as we write. Just keep watching them, and keep the pressure on. They should crack. If they don't, invading a country with Nukes is foolhardy. One of the reasons for going now with Saddam rather than later.
