Your declaration is arbitrary. A fetus is as much a potential as a newborn. You yourself are a potential, and like fetuses who die, you yourself will surely die. So then the mere fact that fetuses die prior to birth does not lower their status within humanity.

If a thing is self-expressing just as we are, and it has a genetic marker of humanity just as we have, then it is not a cabbage, a pig or goat, but it is a self-expressing human entity. The only difference between it and you is that it has not lived for as long as you. That is no cause to murder it because neither have newborns lived for as long as you. And you have not lived as long as many other humans.

Yet it is a fact that the fetus is certainly a living being. It is life, and we only need admit exactly what sort of life it is. Does it live and express its nature as do cabbages or goats? Not at all. It lives and expresses exactly as humans do-- exactly as every single human on the earth lives and expresses. It is one of us - not a potential one of us -- but one of us in every way.
