Skeptics still unconvinced by Powell on Iraq

Following his address to the UN Security Council, US Secretary of State Colin Powell has not won international support for war against Iraq. Permanent Security Council members France, China and Russia are still insisting on more time for inspectors in Iraq in hopes of finding a peaceful solution to the crisis. French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin said there was no change in France's position regarding Iraq, adding that his country did not want war. Turkish Prime Minister Abdullah Gul has declared that Turkey would not fight in any U.S.-led war, but Ankara has authorised the U.S. to upgrade its bases and ports in the country in the event of military action. Meanwhile, in an address from the Vatican, Pope John Paul said an attack on Iraq would unleash terrorism and kill civilians. He said the latest evidence presented by Powell was unconvincing and vague.
