Besides the general systems failures, I expect people to be acting more irrational than usual in the last half of 1999. Historians noted silliness around 1899-1900.

If any significant economic problems stem from this, people may attach additional meanings to the year 2,000. Physical disasters resulting from Y2K control systems failures could really help fuel a milenium change panic. Fringe religious groups could become quite popular for a bit. :-)

Some people will say the Y2K fallout "proves" their armaggedon prophesies. My question is how people need to believe this before society really starts to fall apart?
