CowParade Coming to Atlanta in 2003

Chick-fil-A and McKenna Long & Aldridge Host
Southeastern Debut of 'Udderly Mooving' Public Art Exhibition

ATLANTA, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 200 life-sized fiberglass cows
painted by local artists will decorate Atlanta's streets this summer as part
of CowParade Atlanta 2003. Event organizers announced today that
CowParade(TM), the world's largest public art exhibition that has visited 13
cities worldwide, makes its Southeastern debut in Atlanta June through
September.

CowParade Atlanta is presented by Chick-fil-A, the Atlanta-based
restaurant chain that has become well known for its cow-themed advertising
campaign, and is hosted by McKenna Long & Aldridge. Other event sponsors
announced today include Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Inc.,
EarthLink, ING Americas, Six Flags Over Georgia, Hennessy Automobile
Companies, Making Projects Work, TechBridge, Hayslett Sorrel and The Biltmore.
"CowParade has brought smiles to millions of people around the world,
we're delighted to bring CowParade to Atlanta," said Evelyn Ashley, chairman
of CowParade Atlanta and a partner with McKenna Long & Aldridge. "CowParade
has been incredibly popular in the 13 domestic and international cities it has
visited, drawing people from each host country to see the creativity of local
artists. We're looking forward to bringing that interest and economic benefit
to our own community."
Professional and amateur artists from throughout Georgia are being called
upon to paint and decorate the life-sized fiberglass cows. The cows will then
be creatively displayed in highly trafficked areas, including city parks,
streets, buildings and shopping malls, throughout the summer. Notable Athens
artist Stan Mullins and Atlanta artist Marvin Posey have agreed to paint two
cows and applications to solicit additional artists are being released today.
"We have enjoyed tremendous success with our popular Eat Mor Chikin(R) Cow
campaign," said Scott Reed, Owner/Operator of the Chick-fil-A restaurant at
Marietta's Sprayberry Square, on behalf of the Atlanta-area Chick-fil-A
restaurant franchisees. "Our customers, especially in our hometown Atlanta,
associate cows with Chick-fil-A, so it is fitting for us to sponsor the
Atlanta stop of CowParade."
CowParade Atlanta 2003 is the most recent incarnation of the world's
largest public art exhibition designed to celebrate the spirit of fun, art and
community. Following the exhibit, the cows will be rounded up and displayed
at the American Cancer Society's Cattle Baron's Ball at the Historic Freight
Depot in Atlanta on Oct. 11. Many of the cows will be sold through a live
auction to be held in Atlanta in late October, with the remainder sold by an
online auction. Proceeds from the auctions benefit the Southeast Division of
the American Cancer Society through the Cattle Baron's Ball and TechBridge, a
non-profit organization providing high quality, subsidized technology
consulting and development services to Georgia charitable organizations.
Each cow on display will have a sponsor or patron. Corporations,
community groups and individuals can sponsor cows beginning at $7,500 each.
Sponsorships and marketing opportunities are now available. The fiberglass
cows come in three full-sized poses: standing, grazing and reclining, and
weigh approximately 100 pounds each. When installed in their exhibit
locations, the cows will be attached to 500-pound concrete bases so as to keep
them from "walking away."
CowParade first appeared in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1998, and CowParade
Chicago 1999 and CowParade New York 2000 were widely touted as the most
successful public art programs in each city's history. More than 44 million
people viewed the New York event, and the Chicago event generated nearly
$500 million in economic impact. More than $8 million has been raised for
charitable organizations and more than $1.5 million has been paid to local
artists since CowParade started in 1998.
"We've been approached by cities throughout the Southeast, but we waited
to find the right partners to make our Southeastern debut in Atlanta," said
Jerome D. Elbaum, president of CowParade Holdings.
CowParade Atlanta 2003 is currently accepting proposals from artists who
wish to participate in this public art event. Artists' submissions are
reviewed to ensure they meet the basic guidelines of CowParade. Designs must
have broad appeal to all ages and be appropriate for public display. Upon
approval, designs will be offered to sponsors for their review. Sponsors then
select the designs they would like to have transformed into public bovine art.
The deadline for submitting designs is Feb. 28, 2003.
