re: Japanese buying, i haven't found very good info on the latest figures. there is some interesting commentary on this site, but not in English. sumitomo-gold.com you can sign up for a regular email (japanese) here: sumitomo-gold.com hunting around sumitomo's site, there is some old info on domestic demand but nothing since 2001. another biggie is tanaka: tanaka.co.jp they provide a lot of price charts and such on PMs but for demand trends they provide this link which only goes through 2001 (but includes Japan in the bottom table). jgma.or.jp this last site is the Japan Gold Metal Association. all these sites have basic info on buying PMs, as well as price charts, and in some places it says purchases thru June of last year already topped 2001's entire year, but i can't find anything more recent.
