Wooa, a virologist who does not think that AVIR clinical results were impressive and were sponsored by the NIH is hype, is one explanation that I need to hear. Please point me to one other controlled large FDA study where the results are anywhere comparable. And the fact that this was not adminstered via shot dramatically adds to the potential commercial attractiveness. The following is a direct quote by the NIH[National Institute of Health] "Each year between 35 million and 50 million Americans get flu, and more than 20,000 people die. In addition to the cost of lost workdays, an estimated $4.6 billion is spent annually on direct medical costs". I am very interested in hearing a more reputable source. Admittedly, AVIR as well as all development stage biotechs are inherently high risk with many potential pittfalls but your comments of potential hype is an explanation that I am eager to read and learn. I have not heard anything of the sort in conversations with some of the sharpest biotech analysts on the street. This is not to say that AVIR is a sure winner as I too have some concerns that are not presently satisfied. However, the results that were recently released are worthy of high comments and to my knowledge are the best results ever produced in a large FDA clinical as a flu vaccine. Tomorrow I will bring home some financial numbers and projections that I will post and look forward to your numbers and comments.
