Hi Win Smith; I've been incredibly busy the last week, but every time I get some time and think more about the Space Shuttle I just get more pissed.

We now have an unsurmountable 14 to 3 advantage over the Russians in space martyrs. The last time they busted a shuttle it took 2.5 years to fly again, and that despite the fact that NASA knew where the failure was within 48 hours:

...
Although NASA refused to admit it, engineers were focusing on a booster rupture within 48 hours of the disaster.

The situation now is that NASA has no idea what caused the problem. They're publicly denying that the foam/ice had anything to do with it. With the past history of a 2.5 year gap after a bug that was known within 48 hours, a wreck caused by an unknown failure is probably going to (or at least should) result in the complete cancellation of the program.

So the Russians are going to save the International Space Station, and the Chinese are going to explore the moon.

Meanwhile, because the Democrats are focused on giving money to pregnant drug using welfare cheats, and the Republicans are focused on building up a big enough military that we don't have to listen to the good advice from our traditional allies, the US has no money available for a space program.
