Tom,

I've stayed out of this discussion between you and Jacob. But it seems to me Jacob has been doing the research and you've not been.

How about some research? First how would you operationalize each of your value judgments such that one could arrive at serious answers?

How do you operationalize "freedom"? Would that be Human Rights Watch judgments? Probably not. Just what would that be?

How do you operationalize "fairness"? Would that be measures of adequacy of health care, some sort of monies spent on education, income inequality, worker rights, just what would that be?

And, finally, how do you operationalize "tolerance"? Would that be some sort of quantifiable measure of ethnic conflict?

I frankly don't see how you can do any of this, save for the fairness. Given that, it strikes me you are saying the US is the best. That's fine. If that's how you feel. But it's not an argument meant to persuade others. Just a personal feeling.
