[W]hen you read this thread it is so anti-american, anti-administration...negativity reigns[.]
I'm not sure what, numerically, constitutes a dissenting opinion at this point; any number of polls and surveys (none of which I've seen come even close to a legitimate statistical sampling of the population) point to pro- and antiwar sides being the majority.
I would say, though, that in totality, being "negative" and "anti-administration," whether they're currently in the minority or majority, is nothing less than quintessentially American.
[W]e're really not that bad[.]
I think that depends who you ask. ;-)
[A]ctually I rather like America[.]
I love America. I'm sure that the antiwar folks do as well. It's the duty - perhaps the hallmark - of a patriot to, when they feel is necessary, raise unpopular or uncomfortable issues, test the leadership, and question anything that doesn't sit right.
That said, of course, I don't think that ones' patriotism is - by any means - called into question when, at times, they agree with what the government opts to do.
Which is where I find myself at this juncture. Dissent is an inalienable right, as I see it, however distasteful the circumstances or controversial the issue; it is not, in my opinion, an obligation.
[P]erfect? [N]o...but the best country and government I've seen[.]
The best country, for sure, from my perspective. Great and unique people, resources, and a history so rich as to betray a mere 230 years of existence. And, host to the most noble political experiment ever undertaken.
As for our, or rather 'the,' government...well...
:-)
