As an engineer, my training and my work was about quickly reducing information and ideas to the core truths. The essential facts that have real meaning. The way to find a signal in the noise is to quickly state what one thinks is the noise. All agree or argue about what is noise. When all the obvious noise is agreed to, then finding the signal in the remaining noise is a lot easier.

I've been an electrical engineer for 30 years -- 15 years as an instrument design consultant. I know noise.
