A moment which sticks with me occurred when I was in high school. I was climbing rock cliffs (with no reasonable knowledge or equipment) near Truth or Consequences New Mexico. I fell off a small cliff on to a steeply slanted surface covered with tiny square dried mud pebbles. The surface slanted toward a dropoff of 30-40 feet with larger rocks below. I slid all the way down until one toe was hanging off the end and the other barely pressing against the edge. I was spread eagled trying to get as much friction out of the pebbles as possible but still slid down a millimeter at a time with each breath.

I was spotted a few minutes later and a couple of guys went up, tied some shirts together at the sleeves and tossed an end to me. When I grabbed it I swung over the edge, but was able to wiggle sideways out of the pebble field.
