Charles: There are two stories on AMD today: agreement with
Intel, Fujitsu, and Sharp for new flash standards, and a story
on a new shelf registration for $400M. In addition, note that
the company has 135M shares out, up from 104M at the end of '95.
The financials still haven't been updated since April so can't
tell how the cash position and debt are. April cash was over
$400M and current debt appears to be over $200M. Right about the
AMD reputation: because they don't seem to know the value of an
advertising dollar, the company's products are sort of "generic"
which is a shame because AMD does have a number of leading edge
products and has a #1 market share in some segments. Even on this
thread, some people don't realize that AMD makes more than just
the cpu's and flash. Seems like somebody at the company should
consider taking 10% or so of the cash and hiring an ad agency to
get the word out. One thing is pretty clear: this company's board
sure doesn't care about the stockholders and that's another pretty
big mistake they're making.
