Anti-Americans are those who would suppress freedom of expression and speech. I find this thread very enlightening, to read views from both sides rather than just one. Of course everything would be so much simpler and nicer to live in a totalitarian society where the psyche and mood of the people is as dictated by the administration. Anyone who doubt or dissent against the party line would be called subversive, seditious, and acted in treason.

It is amazing to see how many percentage of the population who would readily get in line with the party line. I can see now how so many oppressive dictators can remain in power for so long with little opposition, because the majority of the populous is more ready to embrace whatever the administration would say. Most people are engaged in earning a living and totally absorbed in the field of their occupation. They have no time and no interest to delve into anything else. Therefore they rely on others such as the news media for superficial and simplistic presentations of events and phenomena, and they tend to think themselves as "experts" from reading the news. As a simple example would be some special recipe of a delightful dish (with pretty colorful pictures) in the food section of a newspaper. Looks great and one can almost taste such delicious dish by looking at the pictures, and the article appears to have depth. Try to make it. Unless one has done a lot of cooking, one would not be able to duplicate anything near the dish described in the newspaper. Believe me, I am decent with main dishes but really lousy with baking because I have not much experience with baking.

Another example would be magazines such as Scientific American and Science. Many people probably think themselves as experts of the field when they read those magazines. For me, they are superficial and merely good for awareness, but far far away from understanding or having real knowledge of it. On the other hand, perhaps most people have much higher intelligence and can develop deeper and keener understanding and develop expertise and total knowledge from reading between the lines.
