Its quietly getting real ugly. If we have any surprises related to Iraq, terrorism or anything else we'll blow past the Oct lows in a flash. I don't think thats any big news for most readers of SI but I don't think Ma and Pa America are really aware of just how ugly this could get. My advice is keep your gas tanks topped off folks. I really believe a gas event is about to take place. No this doesn't mean I'm going to break wind....I mean petroleum. Got an SUV or gas guzzler? You might want to think about getting a Honda Civic or some small car that gets great mileage BEFORE the rush is on and you get slammed on both ends. If past patterns play out the same way, you'll see dealers staying firm and marking up high gas mileage cars and gas guzzlers will see rapid price decay if crude goes nuts for any length of time. We're due for another wake-up call like we had in the 70's which led to more efficient cars in the 80's. Since the early 90's mileage has not been the primary concern for people and thus we've set ourselves up for another crunch. I don't think we need to run out tomorrow and buy but I do think we had better get our ducks in a row so that we can move quickly if needed.
