Ken, any boost in the stock market from the start of a War with Iraq is likely to be just another Bear Market Rally. Overall the US economy is too dependent on consumer spending and it's slow growth could easily sputter and fall back into recession. Few net JOBS are being created. Many corporations and individuals have too much debt. The possiblities of more corporate bankrupties is not good for the market. People need jobs to continue their spending. The auto companies have already offered 0% financing and may find it even harder to get future customers without further incentives eating away at profit margins or worse continuing losses (Ford and weaker auto companies).
The supply of dollars is likely to continue to grow faster than the supply of gold. It takes a long time to find and startup new gold mines. Mergers in the gold industry have hidden the fact that gold production has been dropping as there hasn't been a lot of money available for gold exploration to replace declining production from existing mines and some mines were closed because they were not economical to mine at lower gold prices.
