Consider the billions involved being removed from US banking system and throw in fractional reserve banking, in reverse, and you've got a reason to go to war (from the administrations point of view).

Although its not mentioned... but also in the same vein... Saddam's decision to turn off the oil spigot (i.e. use the "Oil Weapon") for 30 days, last year, in solidarity with the Palestinians and the support it elicited from Libya, Iran and Hammas (support but wisely no action) also has to be shown by the US to be the third rail in oil diplomacy.
