That's a good point. There's likely to be several flavors of pre-standards K56Flex, and it's doubtful that any of the 'Flex vendors will want to support the v.pcm standard and all of the flavors of K56Flex and x2 (of which there will probably be only one flavor). It'll be interesting to see how things develop and what kind of deal, if any, that the 'Flex camp and 3Com can reach to support the early 'Flex users.

I predict some of that the early client-side K56Flex users will wind up with a product that won't take full advantage of the 56k code as it gets tweaked. Only time will tell how many users will be affected, and how significant the problem is, if at all. The same potential exists for x2 users, although it's far less likely since the modem architecture used there was well tested and easily adaptable.
