You do love to set up straw figures and then blast away as if you are arguing with an opponent. Clinton was hardly perfect; but he sailed his way thru those waters with panache. We got to the other side without serious wars, rescued us from all the budget calamities from the Reagan years, etc, which made it possible to have serious economic success in the 90s. No thanks to the other side of the aisle.
And then Bush takes us right back to economic sturm and drang. Not to speak of foreign policy sturm and drang. And don't tell me it's 9-11 that caused it. It's 9-11 that gave the yahoos the opportunity to take a wrong turn into Iraq rather than organize all their efforts around pursuing Al Q and being ready to focus on North Korea when it popped.
Too bad you don't like to hear this and your only counter is that it hurts my credibility. That's a hoot.
One of the things that continues to surprise me about you, Bill, is that you are one of the last I would have suspected of becoming a Bush true believer. But there you go.
Just picked up the Griffin book at the library. Thanks. Also got the new Hunter Thompson. We'll see if I like it. I liked some of his earlier stuff, the Nixon years stuff. But I expect to skim quickly. Just about to finish Lawrence Block's new one, Small Town. You may recall, he's the mystery writer, NYC, one of whose central characters was the small time burglar who owned a bookstore. Does interesting character sketches and has enough tension to make it interesting. The new one is kinkier than the previous and looks as if he is settling scores with some NYC administrators, Guiliani, Bratton, and the like. |
