Could you imagine the effect on the world, if China was a democracy and an ally of America? The North Korean leaders would be in the Hague right now, facing charges for crimes against humanity(namely their own people), and Saddam might be cleaning toilets in a Chinese prison, until he got it right ( which could take decades ).
