January was the second warmest on record down here--
at least at Sea-Tac airport where the data starts in
1949. Precipitation is a little above normal, snowpack
less than half normal with the warmth however.
Classic El-Nino I suppose.

I think the cold weather back east was not forecast
correctly, I thought New England was supposed to have
a fairly normal winter.

Here are the December temperature departures for the states, I don't see January yet.
