snipers will take advantage of the preoccupation of troops with rioting children, including teenagers, to take shots at troops.
This is the first time I am hearing of this strategy. Could you summarize why you believe this is true?
I do not find that inherently incredible.
In a world where people have gassed each other in massive numbers and condensed the dead into soap, anything is credible. Still, I have trouble believing a phenomenon which has never been covered in the media that I follow (major TV channels, magazines & websites on world affairs, economics, etc), especially if it runs counter to my understanding of the nature of a human being and the Arab culture in general.
Do you infer from the behavior of kamikaze pilots during World War II that the Japanese were victims driven to despair?
No. My understanding of the Japanese culture is far from perfect, but I believe they have a particularly strong understanding of honor and personal sacrifice for communal good. I believe kamikaze pilots were sacrificing their own lives in a calm acceptance that I cannot begin to understand for their countries, since it would be extremely dishonorable to refuse this duty.
Do you infer from Nazi death worship (for example, the Party anthem, "The Horst Wessel Song" extols martyrdom) that they were victims driven to despair?
I am not familiar with this anthem or the martyrdom references in the Nazi context.
Arabs have an "honor culture", where it is not unusual to kill one's daughter for shaming the family, or to get into vendettas
Do I know it! :-)
What is driving the Palestinians crazy is the impotency of the Arab world, and its inability to compete on any level with the West.
That might factor a bit into the equation. However, it would probably be more correct to continue your "What is driving the Palestinians crazy is...." with a list starting with, but in no way limited to, the occupation they are living under, the lack of hope on the horizon, having no country, no safety, no future, etc. |
