I have never heard that argument before,

Read up on abortion from a legal perspective, this is the key issue. Avoid the hyperemotional religious sites - Christian Coalition as well as the other side NOW and Planned Parenthood. Just go to sites that discuss the legal ramifications of abortion laws. That is what all of this will come down to.

Its hard to treat this very sensitive issue so clinically so I don't mean to sound cold and unfeeling. I have strong feelings on the subject but it is a never ending spiral getting into this topic.

Other countries that have outlawed abortion (Germany for example has restrictive laws) don't have the personal/human rights tradition that the US has. We really value individual freedoms in this country and the supreme court justices know they are right up against them wrt Roe v Wade.

As I say I suspect abortion stays legal forever due to this. As far as "partial birth" or whatever those things are, they will probably outlaw that since it is merely a procedure and not a rights issue.
