What you should get depends on many things such as the phone line condition and distance, what your ISP has available or what speed the modem your modem is connected to can handle. Then there is what is possible, in rare situations you may get better download speeds then what the modem is rated at. NOW there is Probable, you should only expect a maximum download speed of 33.6 kbps...if all the required conditions are meet.

I had a 28.8K modem and got 28.8K downloads 90+ percent of the time. Then I installed a 56K modem and get 28.8K downloads 99+ percent of the time, even though it is possible to get twice that...obviouly one or more of the required conditions are not being meet.
