Merits of Iraq -

Short version - I am torn between the "box" which effectively neutralizes any army campaigns and direct intervention to keep him from exploring new ways to menace the region. But not in favor of the current, politically motivated, rush to war. Unless Sadam is working with Al Qaida - Powell claimed this but there is more and more material coming out which questions the validity of this claim.
...Instead I would prefer to see a well orchestrated campaign of increasingly stern measures that might still culminate in war. But, if we got that far, it would have been by exhausting our options and building consensus with our allies.
...Sadly, Bush has already spent his political capital (and a lot of $s on the army build-up) so his hand is pretty well forced.

...Beyond that I hope that, no matter what happens, Bush ends up reaping what he is sowing. I have never seen any US leader alienate allies and enemies with such abandon - the UN - irrelevant, Nato - irrelevant, Germany/France - irrelevant, consequences of Iraq war - irrelevant, North Korean threats - irrelevant, Pakistan/India - irrelevant.
...And that's just his first two years in office. I can only guess about what messes are out there waiting for him to create before we even get a chance to boot him out.
