I think you and John are mixing two different aspects of stock options.

You are scheduling the costs according to the FAS. Where the cost of the stock option is determined at the grant date and amortized over the life of the option. Including est. tax benefits.

John S is determining option expense by taking the income tax benefit earned by Cisco, which is determined at the time of option exercise.

Two entirely different numbers. IMO.
