It sounds good on paper...

But the French, Germans, and Russians, for now don't seem to agree.

Right in the middle of hell is correct... Remember Beirut? What makes you think this will be any better? Iran will be suspect at best and the thousand and one Arabian nights will be those of the thousand and one different wacko-factions of terrorists, religious warriors and sundry other cockroaches who can't wait to have a US military compound right in the middle of Baghdad... so they can aim at it all kinds of anti-tank weaponry and kill as many US soldiers as possible...

Then we could have a possible Saudi Arabia revolt attempting to topple the monarchs... or North Korea's bribing attempts by dangling nuclear weapons... are we going to send troops there too?

I also find suspect the Chinese moderated reaction. Usually they are more active in condemning US military actions (in general)... this time around they seem to be busy with something else... Are they seeing something that will damage the US by getting involved in Iraq that we are not? I think so... meanwhile, they are busy becoming capitalists themselves... Corrupt as they may be, their factories are humming... Soon they will have built a sizeble domestic market... meanwhile the US is the policeman of the world ? --sounds dumb to me.

Imo. The US should be promoting capitalism (sans wars)... are the Chinese going to beat us at our own game?

I mean... The Chinese will be the future providers of everything under the sun to South East Asia. I think the population in the region is 3 billion? (not sure) and many of them are Muslims.... so...

I just think we are getting into something that will bite us in the arse quite badly...

We are not economically strong at the moment... Confidence in the dollar is not at it's best and the trend in its value is now down... and in the middle of this we are going to war? Not smart. Definitively not smart.

Occupation can work and you gotta love the location. If we need to deal with any of the other middle east countries we can have a response at their doorstep in 20 minutes if need be

LOL ! Sure... and who pays for it? For how long? More "oil”? Oh and I forget... what if Saddam burns the wells, just before leaving? LOL great !

Indeed... see above... and by the same token, the US installations and soldiers will be as exposed to their rockets, again, just like in Beirut... and who do you retaliate against? A bunch of psycho-Ayatohlas-Arsaholas, whom we can't find?

How many war fronts can we deal with...?

I really think it is dumb to follow this course of action and we are going to pay for it...
