In this case I think the ends did justify the means. I was pretty young when it went on and don't know all the details, and mainly remember being disgusted at how Ollie North was treated by the dems during the hearings. Now-a-days there are all kinds of calls to make everything we do public, but I think sometimes we are best served with a little secrecy. I beleive our goal at the time was to keep the Iran-Iraq conflict relatively equal, and to help the contra rebels defeat the Sanidinistas.

"But you do agree, he sold weapons to the enemy?"

I don't think Reagan personally sold anything to anyone, but am pretty sure that directives were given from the top to accomplish our desired goals in these two areas. Iran was an enemy, but the weapons were to fight Iraq, not the U.S. On the surface, it seems like a great plan to me.

But of course for the dems, making repubs look bad is a major objective. What is good for America is not what they primarily care about. Only more power to control the money.
