Kastel: It doesn't look like there are going to be any good Kurds around this time. But don't worry, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz is looking out for the Kurds:

US Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz recently stated: "We repeatedly expressed our support for the territorial integrity of Iraq, our opposition to a Kurdish state in northern Iraq, our concerns and support for the Turkoman population of Iraq.”

I wonder how large the Turkoman population of Northern Iraq is... lets see the CIA fact book shows the following:

Iraq Population: 24,001,816 (July 2002 est.)

Arab 75%-80%, Kurdish 15%-20%, Turkoman, Assyrian or other 5%

At about 2.5% of the population that's 600,000 Turkomans and between 3,600,000 and 4,800,000 Kurds in Iraq.

Turkey Population: 67,308,928 (July 2002 est.)

Turkish 80%, Kurdish 20%

That's about 13,462,000 Kurds in Turkey.

But it looks as if President Bush and Mr. Wolfowitz have the answer to Turkeys Kurdish problem already in hand.

A key member in the 1991 Gulf War coalition, [Turkey] the Muslim NATO-ally is also being considered by the Bush administration for an $800 million Blackhawk helicopters sale deal.

No wonder everyone is going to be in the streets cheering when the allies arrive with democracy like that to look forward to.
