one of my big concerns right now WRT the terrorists is that by our denial of our economic situation, we are actually encouraging further attacks at economic targets. We have officially used 9/11 as the reason for the continuation of the bear market rather than treat it as an exogenous event that temporarily affected our markets and nominally our economy. By blaming 9/11 for our current economic woes, we have told the terrorists that they hit us in the right spot. Again, I believe that we would still have a weak economy and a bear market today whether or not 9/11 happened.

By continuing to stay in denial about the real causes to our economic condition we are prolonging the situation while at the same time encouraging terrorist acts.

BTW: as far as france, germany and belgium go, I believe that they too are playing chess. Though without most of the back row. I believe that they see the U.S. as being weak now and are trying to maneuver themselves (the EU) to a level of economic and geopolitical parity with the U.S. My guess is that they get their collective asses handed to them by the rest of the world.
