Angler: I think it is more about 40 year lows in interest rates. If you use the war card then you would have to say that it is causing the dollar to drop also and that would be contrary to rational thinking since in view of uncertain times wouldn't investors be fleeing to the biggest and only superpower in the world. With record low interest rates the cost of holding gold goes down also. Here is where it gets tricky--if my premises are right then gold has further to go on the upside and the dollar has further to go on the downside...and on that one we shall see..I have a way of being right in my observations and totally wrong on the outcome...gregor
