its clear Bush is doing everything he can to encourage the rift

France and Germany have chosen to put their own interests above those of anyone else (UN, NATO etc), but who can blame them for that? I want Bush to put the interests of the US ahead of all others too. If not compromising our interests (defense, long term ME stability etc.) rather than caving in to their interests is "encouraging the rift", then encourage away!

Frankly, they are the ones shirking their responsibilities in order to maintain that position. It's a shame, but that's fine. We can go our own way with the rest of Europe. The fact that they disagree with us isn't the end of the world.

Let's not forget the fact that Hussein has broken his cease-fire agreement with us. The whole UN dance is a courtesy on our part.
