France and Germany have chosen to put their own interests above those of anyone else (UN, NATO etc), but who can blame them for that? I want Bush to put the interests of the US ahead of all others too. If not compromising our interests (defense, long term ME stability etc.) rather than caving in to their interests is "encouraging the rift", then encourage away!
You know what.......I have listened to this tired conservative rhetoric for all of the past year. And what you all seem to have in common is you want it your way.....and only your way. Well, let me tell you......no matter how big you are, you only get to do that for while. Bush is a novice statesman who needs some serious training.......fast!
Frankly, they are the ones shirking their responsibilities in order to maintain that position. It's a shame, but that's fine. We can go our own way with the rest of Europe. The fact that they disagree with us isn't the end of the world.
If you read between the lines, and I know you don't want to do that, there has been a serious shirking of responsibility on our part which has lead to a lack of communication/consultation between us and our allies. And the reason.....Bush's ego is way bent out of shape because the Europeans didn't take to him from the get go.
Well, you know what.....Mr. Bush needs to grow up! If people don't like him, tought titty. He has a responsibility to maintain what's in the best interest of the United States, not his ego. And it is definitely not in our best interests to be estranged from our biggest and closest allies......no matter how much you and he want the rest of us to believe it.
Furthermore, you don't send a jackass like Rumsfield who learned his sense of diplomacy in Miss Piggy's school for wayward boys over to try and make nice nice. He only inflamed everyone and made things worse.
Let's not forget the fact that Hussein has broken his cease-fire agreement with us. The whole UN dance is a courtesy on our part.
Oh, shit! Like that's fukking news already. Yeah, the big bad man broke his word.....so fukking what? We have bigger fish to fry........while trying to avoid a major war! Is that what you all want.......a major war?
