No. I read the excerpt in Wired. Based on conversations with friends who are pro blackjack players, I have a couple problems with it. First of all, there wasn't much of a discussion of the inevitable swings and losses that occur, even if you're playing with every known advantage strategy (including shuffle tracking, counting with high level, multi-parameter counts, and team play). This is a basic, important reality that all blackjack players must deal with, ie, RISK. The point of view appears to be limited to "Kevin Lewis", but the MIT team was a HUGE organization, at its height it approached Al-Quieda in its complexity. Certainly its an intriguing story, and the MIT team existed and was highly successful....I'm just not sure that this is the book that does it justice. That said, I'll probably get around to reading it this summer, and it'll probably make a great movie some day.<NG>
A better read, IMO, is Ken Uston's "The Big Player" if you can find a copy. |
