So you believe it is good that Iraq's policy of bribing France, Germany, and Belgium in the furtherance of its aggressive foreign policy was successful? And that their only problem is that there is a bigger dog on the block?
Who do you trust further with nuclear weapons? The United States, who invented them almost 60 years ago and only used them twice to avoid a bloody invasion? Or Iraq?
Substitute "Britain" in the above and what's your answer? I take Britain. I'd happily take "Canada" too.
My point is that such an overwhelming imbalance of power which exists in the world requires some obstacles to prevent it gaining too much momentum in (possibly) the wrong direction. Would you prefer Iraq have that imbalance? Iran? Saudi? Amin's Uganda?
War always takes innocent lives regardless of the justification for the engagement. Hmmm. I guess the US and Russians should have let Hitler continue gassing Jews then. Lots of innocent Germans died in the fighting to stop it.
I'd like to tell you how stupid I consider that remark, but words fail me.
And, should he wish to, Saddam could cancel this whole thing today.
Humanity should never be complacent about aggressive acts. Tell that to 1930's Britain and France.
We all will hope then that they will feel some obligation to justify aggression toward ourselves or another. I'd say Britain and Canada have nothing to worry about as regards the US. I'll be laying in front of the troop trains to stop that one.
I am simply saying that nobody should simply follow aggression any more than they should simply follow some religous cult. The support should follow upon thoughtful examination of all the information and facts. I am talking about the world exercising an abundance of caution in how it "authorises" aggression against Nations. This has been going on for TWELVE YEARS! Do we get to settle in the 21st century? DO you honestly think Bush, Rumsfield, Cheney, et al, are a bunch of mindless knee-jerk robots?
Some opposition allows time for people to consider counter arguments, and to deliberate with thoughtfulness rather than to act with blind and unexamined support. This has been going on for TWELVE YEARS! How long does the debate continue? Until Japan walks out of the League of Nations and sets off on the road to WW2?
Has it occurred to the debate is simply a delaying taking, hoping that the passage of time will dim memories and make the "aggression" look even worse? You think this ploy is innocent? Were you found yesterday under a cabbage leaf?
How many more 911's must the US endure before this is justified? Have you thought about just how raging mad the citizenry of the US will be if there is another similar attack?
Let's say there is more than just a little reason to think that France and Germany are acting in their own short term self interests and the consequences for everyone else be damned. |
