Ted, <Its just like when you have a argument with your girlfriend.......if one of you doesn't think the other one is listening or taking you seriously, you up the ante.>

Are you married or dating right now? If I had a dispute with my girlfriend, I would NOT up the ante by coming up with a plan behind her back. That's a sure way to strain the relationship even further.

<You don't think Germany and France have a better feel for where Europe is right now than we do? They know exactly who their constituency is and what that constituency is thinking.>

Their constituency is supposed to be French and Germans, not all of Europe. And yet they are taking steps on behalf of all the EU, using the European public's anti-war sentiment to their advantage. It's the flip side of the Bush administration using the American public's pro-war sentiment to its advantage.

Clearly there is a lot of self-interest out there. I understand the need to build an international coalition, but I wouldn't put that need above the need to neutralize the Iraqi threat. And it is my belief that Europeans are deluding themselves and believing that negotiating with dictators will bring about peace. They deluded themselves in the 20th century, and they are doing it again.
