Ted, <Its just like when you have a argument with your girlfriend.......if one of you doesn't think the other one is listening or taking you seriously, you up the ante.>

Are you married or dating right now? If I had a dispute with my girlfriend, I would NOT up the ante by coming up with a plan behind her back. That's a sure way to strain the relationship even further.

Sounds good..but trying being a relationship for say 5-6 years......you're really busy with work.....you've got a lot going on and your girlfriend has been trying to get your attention for months without success. If you don 't think under the circumstances your girlfriend won't up the ante, I have to say then that your a little naive. Why do you think people walk out on each other? And its true of any human relationship......if one party doesn't feel they are being treated well, they will react. And of course, they will have all these legitimate reasons for doing it but the truth is they're pissed because you haven't treated with respect.

<You don't think Germany and France have a better feel for where Europe is right now than we do? They know exactly who their constituency is and what that constituency is thinking.>

Their constituency is supposed to be French and Germans, not all of Europe.

That's old Europe.......new Europe is EU.......they have a very good feel for their European constituency.

And yet they are taking steps on behalf of all the EU, using the European public's anti-war sentiment to their advantage. It's the flip side of the Bush administration using the American public's pro-war sentiment to its advantage.

They are taking these steps for good reason......at least in their minds.

Clearly there is a lot of self-interest out there. I understand the need to build an international coalition, but I wouldn't put that need above the need to neutralize the Iraqi threat. And it is my belief that Europeans are deluding themselves and believing that negotiating with dictators will bring about peace. They deluded themselves in the 20th century, and they are doing it again.

Rumsfield has said that the war on terrorism will be a long and arduous process........read expensive as well. You want to do this alone.....it will take twice as long and be so expensive, your grandchildren will be paying for it.

Its time to be smart and not the bull in the china closet IMO!
