Your implication that libertarians do NOT accept the idea of the common good is... well... ABSURD. Libertarians are less willing to sacrifice individual liberties at the altar of the common good than the average conservative but certainly accept the idea of the common good. The actual difference is that libertarians believe that common good issues should be dealt with as locally as possible and at minimum impact on individual liberties, conservatives are more willing to accept Federal (as opposed to state and local) solutions and often seem unconcerned about imposing limits on individuals beyond that needed to protect individual rights.
