I think we have to look at the main thrust of what Bin Laden stated in the tape...

1.) He tied the timing of any attacks against the US to the moment the US crosses Iraq's border. That displays an association between Bin Laden and Saddam, if only "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"..

2.) Such a belief, discounted by Bin Laden declaring Saddam an infidel, doesn't mean that he doesn't have an interest in preserving Saddam's regime against US attack.. After all, he'd like to overthrow Saddam himself and replace him with a Wahabbist militant regime. He just doesn't want the US to establish a presence in the region that competes with his own agenda.

3.) Bin Laden and Saddam don't have to possess similiar ideologies. They don't even have to like one another. Look at the US experience during WWII when the US and UK allied with the Soviet Union.. Heck, during 1939, when Stalin invaded Finland, Churchill had plans drawn up to invade Norway in order to establish a line of communications to Helsinki (as well as to cut off Iron ore shipments from neutral Sweden to Nazi Germany).. But less than two years later Churchill was Stalin's allly..

So Bin Laden could easily see supporting Saddam as critical to preventing the US from gaining the upper hand politically, socially, and economically to Al-Qaeda's Islamo-Fascist goals.. They could then fight amongst one another later on...
