Neo,

re >Every libertarian I have ever argued with has told me there is no such thing as "the
common good", and some have called me a socialist for bringing it up.<g> <

I have never argued any such thing proving your statement false. I have never seen such an argument on this thread, on the Libertarian thread or any where else for that matter.

Any such libertarian would have been laughed out of every meeting I went to back when I was still a member of the LP. Next time you see one of these "libertarians" ask them if they have ever read the Libertarian Party platform or any books by Hayek, Rothbard, Harry Brown, etc. Then ask yourself the same question. They (and you) have a very skewed idea of core libertarian thought. Methinks the "libertarians" you have alledgedly spoken with are Anarchists who don't know what they are or the definition of libertarian.

Your attempt to cast an extremely coherent politcal philosophy based on the Declaration and Constitution as libertine anarchy is not new but it is still beneath you, not to mention completely inaccurate.

BTW what is the core principle of conservatism if it is not individual liberty? The status quo? Judeo-christian morality? The greatest good for the largest number? That last is a rallying cry for socialists but I have heard self described conservatives use it too. ggg
