I heard a Motorola speaker at a conference in San Francisco said there was some slowdown in handset sales. He attributed it to the end of major Unicom subsidies end of December. As he said it, some present exited and phoned in sales calls. Not really new news but some there thought it was.

Motorola really emphasized the continued roll of subsidies in CDMA sales in China. They stated that there was a "dramatic" dropoff after subsidies ended at the end of December. The inventory in China is based with the local manufacturers and not the foreign ones....though when he stated that he didnt say weather he meant GSM or CDMA handsets. From about the 31 minute mark....

I certainly hope that subsidies are reintroduced with the 1x handsets. Qualcomm doesnt have much room for error given the amount of strength they are forecasting in chipset shipments.

Has anyone seen the total number of CDMA users in China at the end of December? Qualcomm keeps listing it as 7m+ but I was wondering if there was a solid number reported.
