Westell's WireSpeed Modem Quickly Marks One-Millionth Unit Manufacturing Milestone at Aurora Plant

AURORA, Ill., Feb 12, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Westell Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:WSTL), a leading provider of broadband access solutions, announced that they have manufactured and shipped the one millionth unit of its second generation WireSpeed(TM) DSL modem today, at the company's U.S. factory located here. These modems are based upon the Texas Instrument AR5 chipset and were just launched last summer into volume production. Westell's Aurora factory is the only major site in the United States where DSL modems are manufactured.

"The rapid achievement of this milestone indicates the enthusiastic market acceptance of this technically superior and easy to use product. Our employees are extremely proud to achieve this key millionth modem milestone so quickly," said Van Cullens, Westell President & CEO.

"The U.S. demand for high-speed Internet access continues to grow and Westell's WireSpeed modem is recognized for delivering high quality and reliable service. The broadband access wagon is picking up speed and we fully expect Westell products to lead the switch to faster home and small-medium business connections," he added.

Westell's WireSpeed product line is an ideal economical solution for residential or small business deployment. These products permit up to 253 home or office users to share a single high-speed Internet connection simultaneously without having to purchase multiple modems.

Today the line is offered in a sleek and compact housing approximately one-half the physical size of earlier models and requires less desktop space. It offers fast and simple "self-install" connectivity. Frost & Sullivan, a global leader in international strategic market consulting and training, awarded the distinguished Market Engineering Product Reliability Award to the Westell WireSpeed modem in 2001.
