I have not read all the messages on this thread so don't know if anyone has proposed the idea that bin Laden's recent message for Muslim retaliation was to inflame the US further to attack and overthrow Iraq before a careful a UN coalition is in place. To foment havoc is a major ingredient of his long term strategy in order to bring more young Islamic men into his suicide squads.
We must move in unison with our European allies and not play 'buckaroo' games. The current anti-French revenge response in this country I see as quite dangerous to our long term prestige and maintenance of our valued cultural and ethical principles in the world. There is nothing surprising about the French antics at this stage of the game but they are still a bulwark of western culture and to make them an enemy is quite foolhardy. We should thank them for slowing us down. Myron
