You are pretty much on track with your list. But there are other things, too.

Motorboats
Travel homes
Mortgage lenders
Roofing (yes, roofing)
Carpeting
Home Furnishings
Clothing
Eyeware

Being in the Residential construction and development business, I am concentrating on those companies related to my field. (something I just learned from reading Peter Lynch who says that you should invest in what you know)

Late last year Elcor (Composition shingles manufacturer), could not keep up with their orders. I had a tough time getting materials to my projects. They have recently expanded their manufacturing facilities and are gearing for the roofing boom.

Dent says that Roofing will be one of the top five growth opportunities in the next ten years. It makes a lot of sense.

During the recent recession, a lot of people put off necessary roofing repairs and replacements. LOTS of houses were built in the 70's and early 80's for young boomers. These are all reaching their roof life expentancy. That is a lot of re-roofs. Also, the housing resale and new construction market was in a slump during this last recession. This trend is reversing.

Now that housing prices are going back up and the boomers have more (or are building more) discretionary income, they will focus more on housing improvements. In talking to my roofing contractors, I am seeing this start to happen in my area.

Granted, roofing is not exciting like computer technology, but this is the type of field that has been overlooked and will grow dramatically.

Carpeting and home furnishings is in a similar pattern. Take a look at Burlington industries. They just added a director to the board, who was the project manager for L'Eggs pantyhose. May seem silly, but L'Eggs was one of the most successful products and marketing strategies of the 70's. These are the type of people who will be successful in taking companies into the greatest boom period. Burlington produces carpeting in addition to textiles for clothing and home furnishings.

Anyone else know about other home building industry related stocks that will boom because of the baby boom?

Or any of these type of stocks that are related to your business?
