There's also the question of whether insurance is going to cover these shots like they cover the other basic vaccinations. This flu vaccination though is different than polio or hepatitis and it is yearly so it may be different. If insurance covers you can be sure a lot more people will get the shots. I know companies sometimes cover and have flu vaccinations available for all employees but would they really want to pay 5x more so their employees can avoid a little shot?

This thing about the children and how few of them get flu vaccinations now. It is most likely not because it is currently in the form of a syringe injection. Oral is nice but I think the shots were not the limiting step. Maybe they haven't gotten around to it or they cannot afford it. I have a daughter and you can bet that if there was a shot to be had that will help her battle flu or other diseases she will get it regardless of whether it hurts. By the way the oral polio vaccine is wonderful but the baby screams just as loud and I predict she will do the same when you try to shoot something up her nose. Doctors and their offices just bring fear into her eyes.

V1 do you know whether this $10 per shot is the net they will earn or what they will charge for the vaccination itself. There are probably royalties to be paid as well to Ayest and or the NIH... and the cost of production as well. I do not doubt that Aviron will make money in the future but I question what percent take they will get and how much they will earn, and again it will take another two years, and also consider that once it is on the market does not mean that EVERYONE will run to use it at once. I am of the skeptical percentage of the population where I will let other children or adults test it out first to see if it really works before I try it on my own daughter. Just being paranoid and overprotective... can there be any side effects other than the thing not working?

Just my two cents.
