It should be apparent by now that almost any statement from Hussain or his cabinet ministers should be taken with quite a lot of skepticism. Even so, there is no justification for war as a solution to this problem. Yesterday evening on public television Lehrer report, there was a very good discussion of non-war strategies, as proposed by the Carnegie Endowment, contrasted with the extreme hawkish views of the influential Pearle, who advises the Dept. of Defense.

The use of military might to solve the problem simply creates more problems, the solutions for which are all more expensive than a careful application of traditional diplomacy.
